as we continued through the end of June and into July, the striped bass bite in the river remains consistent. With the water temperatures slowly climbing up every day, the bite may end any day now. As the water temperature in the river continues to climb, the bass will slowly start to weed their way out of those waters and into some coolers waters outside of the Saybrook Harbor. The bite in the river has pretty much only come from live bait fishing. There are other anglers out there getting the job done with different varieties of spooks and swim baits, but I have found the most aggressive fish continuing to circle back around and smash bunker on top over a doc most times. Black sea bass fishing has also been fantastic. Filling up coolers with plenty of large knot-head sea bass and some really nice weakfish mixed in as well. The ticket item for these guys has been a combination of homemade sea bass rigs, and some secret bait! Stay tuned till next week for the next report and hopefully some bigger fish!
